About Brush Strokes

Over the past few years many enthusiastic artists have visited Brush-Strokes to enjoy and paint the beautiful surroundings of Snowdonia, in North Wales. For 2006, they have another exciting programme of painting breaks, and they are sure you will find a course to suit you, whether you are a beginner, an experienced artist, or just a little rusty.

This year Soraya French, Graham Cox and Paul Weaver join their list of tutors, all of whom will gently lead you to a more enjoyable result in whichever medium you like to paint.

The courses are centred in their comfortable studio, a converted chapel, in the village of Dolwyddelan near Betws-y-Coed.

Here there are wonderful painting venues, many within a short walk of the studio, with mountains, waterfalls, ancient Welsh stone and slate buildings, lakes, rivers and even a local castle, all with magical light, which is forever changing - a challenge and a delight to paint.

Inspired by the spectacular scenery of the Snowdonia National Park, Ann and Chris moved to Dolwyddelan to set up Brush-Strokes in 1999.

Ann, being the resident artist, runs several of the courses herself, and is always on hand with the visiting tutors to help make sure that everyone is enjoying themselves.

She was taught for many years by the well known artist Carlo Sdoya who had served his apprenticeship under the famous artists Ballerini and Bargellini in his native Italy.

Ann and Chris, with the tutor and any non-painting partners, join the groups for a relaxed evening, chatting over supper in one of the many local pubs and restaurants.

"We really look forward to welcoming you to Brush-Strokes in Snowdonia this year".

Dolwyddelan [Pronounced Doll-with-ellan] is a delightful village, 5 miles from Betws-y-Coed, in the beautiful Lledr valley surrounded by woodlands and situated in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, yet easily accessible by road or by train. The village station, which connects to the main line and rest of the country via Llandudno Junction, is within a short walk of the studio and the local hotel.

Dolwyddelan has its own castle, a fifteenth century church, a picturesque bridge over the river which runs through the village, and many other locations and landscapes within a short distance, often with a beautiful backdrop of mountains.

For non painting partners there are numerous leisure activities available, including golf, fishing, walking, horse riding, pony trekking, canoeing and, for the really adventurous, mountain climbing.

They will book, on your behalf, comfortable local accommodation to suit your individual requirements. The cost of accommodation is not included in the course fee due to the varying requirements of each guest.

Course fees cover all tutoring, unlimited use of the studio and facilities, a light lunch, and a bottomless tea and coffee pot.

The courses start in the studio around 9.30 each morning, and then continue inside and on location.

Ann and Chris, with the tutor and any non-painting partners, join the groups for a relaxed evening, chatting over supper in one of the many local pubs and restaurants.

However those who prefer to continue in the studio, or follow their own wishes, are of course free to do so.
